Julia Pontecorvo

JULIA PONTECORVO is a Brooklyn, NY-based creative producer and program leader motivated by a belief that the stories we tell shape how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. For over a decade and a half, she has produced work across documentary, branded content, experiential and digital that aims to edify, enlighten and entertain.

Julia began her career at R/GA, managing web redesigns for Verizon and experimenting with NFC integrations in retail. From there she moved on to RadicalMedia, where she co-launched THNKR, a Webby Award–winning YouTube channel that grew to over 100 million views and 250k subscribers in 18 months. Since then, she has produced documentaries that have taken her from the backstreets of Budapest to the Atacama desert, developed new video formats and executed campaigns for iconic brands ranging from Conde Nast to Comcast to Target, collaborated with designers and technologists on boundary-pushing interactive experiences, organized creator conferences, and yes, even tried her hand at podcast hosting.

Her documentary credits include the Sundance-winning Going Varsity in Mariachi (Netflix), The Supermodels and Home (Apple TV+), Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War (Prime Video), and a forthcoming international espionage docuseries. One of her favorite collaborations was with media artist Lance Weiler on Where There's Smoke, a live documentary blending immersive theater, installation, and game design, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

At Firelight Media — the nonprofit founded by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stanley Nelson — she has run national production initiatives in partnership with PBS and Hulu, including launching and overseeing In The Making, the WNET/PBS Digital Shorts series, one of the most successful short doc programs at PBS. Projects from these programs have gone on to win awards NAACP Image Awards, Peabodys, and accolades from numerous festivals.

Whatever the format, Julia brings an appetite for ambitious creative challenges that require her to learn and evolve, and a commitment to moving them forward with the clarity, decisiveness, and genuine care that results in resonant, lasting experiences for audiences.

She is a member of Video Consortium, the Documentary Producers Alliance, and was a 2020 Impact Partners Producers Fellow. She also identifies as Harrison Ford's #1 Fan.
